Not the usual view of Durdle Door but I just love the expansive and airy feeling this picture creates, for me at least. It was taken from the top of Swyre Head which is a high headland on the Jurassic Coast between Swanage and Weymouth. Naturally, there are views in all directions and it feels a very lofty height, dwarfing the famous arch below. I included a lot of foreground to create the illusion that you are actually there – just imagine the cold, the wind on your face, the sound of the surf, and the smell of the sea. This is such a wonderful part of Dorset, and somewhere that I love to walk, especially in winter.
Below is what would be regarded as a slightly more normal view which I took on the way down from my high perch 🙂 !

This was such a lovely evening with the ‘golden hour’ light spreading across the landscape from the setting sun, really emphasising the colour of the beach. I have a million pictures of this coast already but I just can’t help taking more each time I walk it. The scene changes each time because of the time of year, the light, the sea levels, the weather conditions etc, so it is ever changing anyway. I never tire of it.
I really hope you are all keeping well and staying free from this virus. Although, according to the government, I am in the ‘vulnerable’ category being over 70, I am still getting out into the countryside every day either on two feet or two wheels. Exercise, and time outside, is vital for wellbeing so I intend to keep this up unless I am officially quarantined 🙂 ! I hope you are able to do the same but if you are not, then maybe these pictures will lift your spirits.
Stay safe everyone!

It’s a beautiful stretch of coastline that leads to Durdle Door. I don’t normally link to my posts but I did one about it some months back, with a google streetview embed, that you might like. https://sandieseashore.wordpress.com/2020/01/13/durdle-lulworth-some-news/
Stay safe.
Thanks Val – the virtual walkabout is a great facility 🙂
