Towards 2024 – from Blog to Vlog and more

There is a link to my YouTube channel below

First of all, a belated very HAPPY NEW YEAR to you all – may 2024 be a great year for you.

The latter part of 2023 was not good for me, with two hospital stays for operations, plus a bout of Covid all over Christmas and New Year, but 2024 has started with renewed activity, partly I think because of having been laid up for so long. It has also started with a new direction, or an extra direction really, as I have started to develop my YouTube channel further. This is in addition to my written blog which I am proposing to keep going.

One of the things that inspired me to make this move was the very fact that I was laid up for months last year as it gave me the opportunity to look back at all my past activities such as my many backpacking trips. At the time, I shot only photographs and, as lovely as that record is, I found myself wishing I had shot video – in fact, I wound up watching other people’s videos of the routes that I had also followed and it really brought back some great memories of my own walks. This made me think about shooting more movies in the future so that I could record some of my favourite walks in Dorset and elsewhere, and maybe some backpacks too if my arthritic ankle permits, and sharing these publicly.

Thanks to birthday and Christmas, and the generosity of family, I became the proud owner of a GoPro 12 that enables me to shoot much better quality footage than the phone that I had previously used, and my first new movie went up on my channel on 4th January 2024. Since then, I have posted three more, I have four others shot and waiting to be processed/edited, and many more in the pipeline i.e. planned in my head 🙂 !

In case you have missed these, there are links to my YouTube channel and the individual 2024 videos below:

The Dorset Rambler YouTube Channel

King Down and Badbury Rings (and on walking with arthritis)

A Sandbanks and Studland Beach Walk

On the Purbeck Ridge

On the North Dorset Ridge

These were all shot on beautiful January days – it hasn’t all been wet and dreary this year 🙂 !

Currently, I am posting a new video every Sunday and the one coming up this Sunday at 11 am is entitled ‘Walking in the Footsteps of Priests and Quarrymen’ 🙂 It was shot on a spectacular day last week. I am finding myself actually enjoying watching my own videos and reliving the walks, and I hope they will give you and others pleasure too.

Do check out the videos, and if you like what you see, then please do subscribe to my channel as there will, God willing, be lots more coming. I enjoy shooting and sharing, and I hope you will enjoy watching just as much.

And if you have any comments or suggestions to make, please do let me know.

In addition to planning lots more Dorset walks and videos, I am hoping that my son, Paul, and I will be able to enjoy another week in the Lake District, and I am really hoping for some backpacking trips. The last mentioned will depend on how my ankle holds up of course. At the very least though, I am hoping that I will be able to get some trips away with the tent, even if I have to settle for pitching up somewhere and doing day walks. Oh, and in addition to those, I’m really hoping to shoot more pictures, and maybe videos this year, of the wildlife in my re-wilded garden. It could be a busy year 🙂 !

In the meantime, enjoy, stay safe, stay healthy, and stay active.

Thanks for stopping by

Until next time,
