Parkland

Normally when I walk, I am out in the wild country……as far as that is possible in England where there aren’t really many truly wild parts left 🙂 ! On this walk though, things were much more civilised and I included a stretch of footpath that passed through the parkland of an old stately home. The picture was actually taken through my sunglasses, hence the lovely warm orange/yellow cast, and I particularly liked the effect. What was also nice was that there was a tea rooms in the park so I had tea and cake on my way through……the height of decadence for someone who more normally has a packed lunch sat on the wet ground in the middle of no-where 🙂 ! Incidentally, as I joke to my grandson, that is a nonsensical expression because how can anywhere be in the middle of nowhere as surely, everywhere is somewhere……as far as I am aware 🙂 !

You will probably have noticed that there has been an absence of any crazy walking, or indeed cycling, recently. That is because I am giving my eye time to heal fully by sticking to less energetic pursuits for the time being. This means more low level, flat walking, and shorter distances too, and no strenuous cycling either. Hopefully, normal service will be resumed shortly…….well, it will have to be because later this month I am off to backpack part of the Pembrokeshire Coast Path with my son and daughter. At the moment I don’t feel very prepared for that because as I get older, my fitness level seems to drop off much quicker than when I was young! I’m definitely not so hill fit as I was! I am sure it will be fine though, and I am really looking forward to it.

Despite the lack of long walks this year because of my ankle problems and my eye op, I still seem to have managed to notch up the best part of 1,000 miles on two feet and two wheels so far. Not that the number of miles is the be all and end all but I had expected my numbers to have fallen. I guess I have done shorter walks but more of them. I am just so grateful that after my ‘three score and ten years’ on this earth, I can still enjoy getting out into the countryside. There are so many people who are unable to say that, and I feel for them!
