As Night Falls

The River Frome with Wareham Quay across the water

One of the things I find myself doing regularly, and I might add that I enjoy, is walking in the dark! It happens a lot to me, especially at this time of the year with shorter daylight hours – I just seem to run out of time πŸ™‚ ! It happened last week whilst on a walk around the heaths and moors around Wareham. It had been a ‘damp’ day, both above and below, with heavy drizzle and muddy ground, and it was wonderful πŸ™‚ ! It was seasonal weather that suited the heathland territory very nicely.

I started and finished at the lovely Purbeck town of Wareham. It was once the main port of Poole Harbour although it is hard to believe it looking at the short quay that fronts the comparatively minor River Frome that flows into the harbour. When I reached the end of my walk, I had already been finding my way in the dark for some while, but the rain had ceased and it was a mild November evening so I sat on a seat overlooking the river and drank the last of my flask of hot Bovril. It was lovely sitting beside the gently flowing river on this balmy evening, with swans and ducks gliding by occasionally and just a whisper of breeze. I could have sat there all evening!

Whilst I was there, I took a few long exposure pictures using just my Fuji bridge camera and a minuscule, pocket sized mini tripod that I carry with me, and this is one of the pictures. It was taken from the river bank with Wareham Quay and bridge across the water.

I hope you are all keeping well and that you have been able to enjoy getting out during this strange year that was 2020.

Thanks for stopping by and reading my ramblings.

Stay safe!

      1. Oh yes, Dickens!! Of course. He was wasn’t he! I’m lucky enough to have lived in Broadstairs some years ago where he visited many years. Although I didn’t do much by way of night walking, I did a lot of early morning sunrise walks in winter…πŸ˜‰

      2. Early morning walks are the best. I used to do a lot, even in summer, getting up at 3am πŸ™‚ There is a book of Dickens’ night walks called ‘Night Walks’ and its on my reading list. He did it because he was an insomniac of course.

      3. Oh I didn’t realise that…I’ll have to look out for the book. Hmmmm, 3am..I’m impressed πŸ˜„πŸ˜„ I’m definitely not an early riser and the only reason I see the sunrise is coz it rises so late in winter. I think my record is 6.30am πŸ˜‰
